Chromatic’s wave

Individual Project
June 2019 - 15h
Instructions : Stage a color palette made during the course.
Concept : Undulatory structure made with bricks exclusively.

Gradient making

During the Theory of the colour’s class, I made a colour pallette presented as a grid. This palette is made of mixes of different inks.

Inspiration

I wanted to make a kinetic sculpture in order to present it. In November 2018, I had the opportunity to visit the EDF’s fundation exhbition “1, 2, 3, Data”, and saw this kinetic sculpture by David Bowen, a studio artist. This wave structure was moving following the data transmitted by a sensor in the Pacific Ocean, thousands miles away from Paris.

Prototyping

Then I designed the motion system and the mechanisms. I built a gear mechanism that transmits motion to pistons, giving the illusion of a wave.

Rendering

I captured the size and the motion of the structure through videos and photos.
